8 Ways To Spend a Winter Afternoon In

As we get deeper into winter we are all feeling a bit like we want to go into hibernation until spring comes around. But staying in isn’t a bad thing. So, to make the most of this chilly season we have compiled a list of fun and cosy ways of staying in. Whether you’re doing it solo or spending time with friends, family or a partner, we hope you find some inspiration here.

1. Have a games night

This could be anything from a quiet night of puzzling to getting a whole group together around a lively tournament of board games. This is a great way to have fun and keep your mind active. Hosting your own quiz night is also a really fun way to spend an evening.

2. Step up your movie night by making it themed

A movie night is always a great idea but why not step it up a notch and make a whole event of it. First, either pick your theme or pick your movie and then plan the whole night around it. For example, if you’re watching Barbie you could wear pink outfits and make pink cocktails. Or, if you want to have a throwback sleepover, get out the Hilary Duff movies, PJs and mountains of sweets.

3. Do some baking

There’s nothing like the smell of fresh sweet treats to make your home feel cosy and warm. Baking is fun to do and you (hopefully) get delicious food at the end of it. What more could you ask for? You could even combine this with the previous idea and bake specifically for your theme.

4. Cook yourself a 3 course meal

Do you want a nice fancy meal but don’t want to leave the house or spend a fortune on it? Why not go all out and cook a 3 course meal for yourself. Lay the table nicely, get a bottle of wine (or your preferred beverage) and light some candles (we recommend these ones…). Even get dressed up if you want. This one is particularly perfect for a Sunday with no plans.

5. Have an art night

This is obviously a Memory Holmes favourite. As creatives it’s so refreshing to spend an afternoon just creating without a goal or audience in mind, but just for the fun of it. Even if you don’t consider yourself a creative person it can be so much fun just making things without worrying if it’ll turn out good or not. You could paint, draw, build, crochet, collage, do some pottery, there’s so many options. These Paint by Numbers kits are also a gorgeous idea for an art night.

6. Make some vision boards

Winter is a great time to start thinking about what you want, by the time spring comes around and you have the energy and get-go again you’ll know exactly what you’re working towards. You can have lots of fun with this. First note down some of your goals, then dig through magazines or Pinterest to find images you love that represent these things, and finally, create a collage that represents you. You could include hobbies you want to pick up, places you want to visit, career goals, life goals, anything!

7. Relax with a at home spa night

Make some time for yourself to properly relax. Every now and then we all need a quiet night to recharge and refresh. Run yourself a bubble bath, get out a facemask and light some candles (or whatever your spa night rituals are). We also really recommend putting your phone away and swapping it for a book or good film to properly switch off from the world.

8. Give your space a refresh

This could be your bedroom, living room, or work area. Just take some time to spruce it up and give it a new lease of life. This could be a quick tidy up, swapping out some art you don’t love some much any more (we have some great options here…), a total rearranging of furniture, or even a full on sort out. Either way it’ll make your space feel fresh and new.

We hope you found some inspiration here ~ comment below any of your own ideas!

Lot’s of love,
